Theoretical Physicswith Professor Alfred Goldhaber Prof. Goldhaber has worked with undergraduates in the past, most recently with Jory Meltzer (BS Physics, May 2003) on a question related to general relativity. He is not currently working with any undergraduate, but would be willing to undertake a project that would involve the Monte Carlo calculation of the probability that the angular distribution of neutrinos from supernova 1987A arises by chance alone. (See this conference paper for further information.) The project would require Fortran or equivalent programming experience, but the necessary knowledge of statistics could be learned collaboratively. Contact Prof. Goldhaber by phone at 632-7975, by email at (Alfred.Goldhaber@stonybrook.edu), or by visiting his office, room 6-113 Math Tower. November 2003 |
