Medical physicswith Professor Lawrence Reinstein Prof. Reinstein is a medical physicist in Stony Brook's Department of Radiation Oncology. The department has been expanding in recent years, and has new accelerators for radiation therapy in new facilities at the Long Island Cancer Center adjacent to Stony Brook University Hospital. Prof. Reinstein has worked with various high school students and undergraduates on the development of improved software for guiding and evaluating radiation therapy. In particular, he worked with Robert Wlodarczyk (double BS in Physics and Computer Science, May 2002) beginning in Robert's freshman year, in a collaboration that resulted in several publications and reports. Current research areas in Prof. Reinstein's laboratory include: (1) intensity modulated radiation therapy dosimetry; (2) Monte Carlo based calculations for neutron dosimetry and electron beam dosimetry; and (3) polymer gel dosimetry. Contact Prof. Reinstein at the address on his web page for further information about these research opportunities and/or new job opportunities in medical physics for students with a BS degree.
