Statement of Interest:
My research interests include understanding the quantum properties
of gravity and spacetime degrees of freedom within string theory,
because string theory seems to be the most successful candidate for a
theory of quantum gravity. Recently there have been very important
developments concerning the non-perturbative definition of string
theory and M-theory in terms of large $N$ (non-gravitational) quantum
field theory living on the boundary ($AdS$/CFT). This is exciting,
since, for example, we can study black holes, which are completely
gravitational objects in terms of non-perturbative field theory.
My hope is to understand black holes and ultimately even the origin
of our universe through the study of string theory.
